>> 1. Easy to use & Hassle free:
Simply start mowing; it's as easy as that! No filling with petrol, no passing the extension lead through the kitchen window, no priming, no last minute trips to the petrol station, just push and go! Push mowers are easy to use. Anyone suggesting otherwise probably hasn't touched one in twenty years. Now manual mowers with the newly developed 'contact-free cutting technology' make it even easier to push.
>> 2. Better for your grass:
FACT: A cylinder mower is the first and only choice for golf greens, tennis courts, bowling greens and show lawns the world over. This is because of the cutting process. A cylinder mower (even contact free) neatly shears the blades of grass, whereas rotary mowers, brush cutters and flail mowers cut in a striking action. A cylinder mower therefore leaves a cleaner cut which heals quicker and is less prone to dehydration (causing tip browning) and disease. The end result is a greener, healthier and better looking lawn.
>> 3. No Maintenance:
The great thing about modern manual lawnmowers is that they are 100% maintenance free! That&39#;s right; no oiling, no changing the spark plug and no messing around on a Sunday morning trying to get it working.
>> 4. Virtually Silent:
It's Sunday morning, now be honest, what would your family really prefer to hear coming from your garden? The irritating whine of a puny electric mower, the choking and grinding of a petrol engine or the gentle purr of a push mower at one with it's environment? Bring out the Pimms, I know which one I'd prefer!
>> 5. No Fuel & No Electricity = No running costs:
Because you are the engine, you are not paying the electricity board to generate power and you are not paying the petrol company to extract ancient and irreplaceable fossil fuel on your behalf. Instead you are converting your corn flakes into motion, and its good exercise too!
>> 6. Light weight:
Light enough to be hung on the shed or cupboard wall out of the way. Ranging from 5.5 to just over 7kgs; push mowers have certainly become a lot lighter than the Victorian ancestor that first springs to mind. The average electric mower weighs around 13kgs and the average petrol mower weighs around 40kg!
>> 7. No pollution:
For many people this is the single most important reason. Did you know that an hour's use of a petrol lawnmower releases more than 1,000g of CO2? (source) or that the UK emissions model suggests that lawnmowers and other petrol powered garden equipment accounts for 2.1 per cent of UK hydrocarbon emissions? (source). Thankfully by using a manual lawnmower you will not be polluting the planet. We can't hide from the effects of global warming and ozone layer depletion, but we can do something to prevent it.
